Guinness a dark Irish dry stout that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness at St. James's Gate, Dublin, Ireland.
On 31st December 1759, Arthur signed a 9,000 year lease at £45 p/a for the dis-used brewery. Ten years later, on 19 May 1769, Guinness first exported his ale: he shipped six-and-a-half barrels to the UK which turned out to be a very smart move!
Guinness moved its headquarters to London at the beginning of the Anglo-Irish Trade War back in 1932. During 1997, Guinness Plc joined forces with Grand Metropolitan to become the powerhouse British multinational alcoholic-drinks producer Diageo plc.
