Aperol was originally produced by the Barbieri company, based in Padua, but since 2003 has formed part of the Campari Group. The Aperol Spritz became widely popular outside of Italy around 2018 and was ranked as one the world's best selling cocktails.
Aperol is made of gentian, rhubarb, and cinchona, among other ingredients. Its name comes from "apero", the Italian slang word for aperitif, and a slice of orange.
There is no single composition for a spritz, it is often prepared with different ingredients in different towns and cities you might visit, as a result the alcohol content can vary tremendously.
