Campari was invented in 1860 by Gaspare Campari in Novara, Italy. Gaspare was born in a small town in the province of Pavia, in Lombardy.
When Gaspare's sons Davide and Guido took control of the company in 1920, they reduced the brand’s portfolio to just one apéritif, Bitter Campari - a clear, raspberry-based bittersweet liqueur, Cordial Campari. which ceased production during the 1990s.
Campari is an Italian bitter flavored liqueur. It is considered an aperitif. It's colour is a dark red and is flavoured with herbs and fruits, including Chinotto, a citrus fruit and Cascarilla, a shrub. Served best on it's own, with orange or soda water.
